Coffee grows in Europe!
https://jarvie.ca/finca-la-laja-coffee-and-wine/
Doug, for some reason I can’t find the comment section. Here’s what I have to say:
My mind = blown! I was today years old when I found out that we can grow coffee in Europe—in Agaete, Gran Canaria, no less! As a former Starbucks employee, I thought I had a decent handle on global coffee origins, but this one completely flew under my radar.
It’s fascinating how the region’s microclimate, elevation (around 400–600m), and proximity to the Tropic of Cancer create the right conditions for Arabica, despite being just outside the traditional “coffee belt.” Thanks for sharing this—total game-changer for my coffee geography map! The Finca La Laja looks fabulous, glad you had a great visit!
